The new Jil Sander STONE Collection

Presented on occasion of the Biennale di Architettura at the recently opened Venetian boutique in Piazza San Marco, the new design project pushes the virtuosity of Italian glass-making to unprecedented levels of ingenuity and refinement.

Created and produced in collaboration with Venetian glass-makers, Venini, and Milan and Rotterdam-based design studio, Formafantasma the collection of four vases - limited to nine pieces per shape, is an homage to the artistic heritage of the city and to an experimental approach. A progressing fusion of design, technology, and the handmade.

The inspiration lies in the exploration of the unexpressed potential of glass, through modern and traditional techniques that create new textures and shapes. Crafted by hand and blown by the Venini masters, the STONE vases feature organic forms and a unique, deep crackled texture, a distinctive effect is achieved through the process of immersing the hot molten glass into cold water, followed by multiple cycles in the oven to seal the cracks and form a smooth, solid crystal.

Formafantasma worked closely with the artisans to allow the material and the creation to guide each piece to its uniqueness - an iteration shaped by nuance, variation and decision-making in the moment. These subtle differences reflect presence and attention, allowing the vases to result into their final shape. This approach stands in contrast to industrial production, which prioritizes uniformity. Craft invites unpredictability and rewards curiosity. It’s a space where experimentation is not only possible but essential.

Each product features the sandblasted Jil Sander logo and the engraved Venini and Formafantasma signatures.
