JIL SANDER AND OLIVER PEOPLES
EYEWEAR COLLABORATION
COLLECTION 2
Designed by JIL SANDER Creative Director Simone Bellotti, this second release of sunglasses is built on a play of opposites: modernist rigor and organic softness, technical precision and an effortless feel. Three new Editions – one in titanium and two in acetate – bring the exacting standards of JIL SANDER and Oliver Peoples to rounded, supple shapes designed to move with the face. Handmade in Japan with premier sunglass lenses crafted in Italy, the styles reveal their craftsmanship through bold proportions and considered detailing.
Color brings a new dimension to Collection 2. The interplay of the frames with the lens creates combinations ranging from subtle tonal relationships to more pronounced contrasts.
“This collection was born as an instinctive gesture, with movements that soften the eyewear object, rounding it and making it less rigid, more sinuous. It’s a collection that plays on contradictions: extreme Japanese precision for an organic, fluid feel; or, for example, the acetate frame of Edition 9, which counterintuitively widens toward the bottom. These are glasses that interact with the face, following its shapes with harmonious lines.” – Simone Bellotti.
Edition 7 is an architectural frame that transcends classic titanium eyewear. A rounded eyewire is overlaid by a sculptural top bar that drapes across the frame, meeting a shaped bridge and low-set endpieces. The temples, shaped in a specially designed curve form an original detail that enhances the profile of both the frame and the face. They lead to sinuous sculpted tips, while vintage-inspired adjustable nose pads and proprietary Oliver Peoples glass lenses complete the construction. The style comes in Gold with Light Brown Wash lenses, Gold with G-15 lenses, Gold with Indigo lenses, and Silver with Grey Gradient lenses.
Edition 9 shifts the collection to a thick acetate that is sculpted and carved so that the front appears angular as it slopes to the face. The streamlined temples and distinctive tips make for a comfortable fit, while minimal gold engravings – vintage-inspired branding on the right temple, "handcrafted in Japan" on the drop-shaped tip – signal its craftsmanship. It is offered in Black with Carbon Grey lenses, Dark Mahogany with Carbon Grey, Taupe with Green, and Buff with Light Brown Wash.
Also handcrafted in sculpted acetate, Edition 10 softens the geometry with a rounded, upswept silhouette. Its defining feature is the curved temple, which flows into a sculpted tip and gives the frame a particularly fluid profile. Like Edition 9, it incorporates collaboration branding engraved inside the temples, universal-fit nose pads and proprietary glass lenses. The four combinations are Black with Carbon Grey lenses, Dark Mahogany with Carbon Grey, Bright Blue with Carbon Grey, and Amber with Indigo.
As Simone Bellotti establishes his vision at JIL SANDER, this collaboration with Oliver Peoples acts as both object and gesture – an assertion of the brand’s modernist aesthetic across multi-faceted and everyday design.
