‘Somei Yoshioka’ is a dyeing and weaving workshop with a history spanning over 200 years, dedicated to preserving Japan’s traditional colours. This collaboration has resulted in four varieties of plant-dyed linen handkerchief sets. Plant dyeing is a traditional method in which dye solutions are created by extracting and fermenting the roots, leaves and flowers of plants such as purple root, indigo, safflower and madder over a period of time. Inspired by the ‘kasane no irome’ favoured by the aristocracy of the Heian period, the spring ‘Sakura no Kasane’, summer ‘Rindou no Kasane’, autumn ‘Okurikuro no Kasane’ and winter ‘Nobiro no Kasane’ feature beautiful colour tones that reflect Japan’s unique four seasons, gently adding a touch of colour to everyday life
